Who Started Our Family Story Way Back When?

Every great store has a beginning, and ours starts with family. Our story goes all the way back to 1942. That is when our great-grandfather, Byron Rosenbloom, started the Jay Furniture Company. He opened up shop in Athens, PA. He wanted to help people make their houses feel like homes.

A few decades later, in 1967, our father, Dave Rosenbloom, decided to join the fun. He opened Jay Carpet Center, Inc., right across the street from the furniture store. It was a busy time!

• 1942: Byron Rosenbloom starts Jay Furniture Company.
• 1967: Dave Rosenbloom opens Jay Carpet Center.
• 1978: We grew even bigger with a large warehouse in Athens.

We have had some tough times, too. Like any good adventure story, we faced some big challenges. We had to deal with a flood in 1970 and fires in 1992 and 2011. It was scary, but we didn't give up. We rebuilt every single time because we knew our community needed us. That resilience is part of who we are today.

When Did We Come to Horseheads, NY?

We love Horseheads! In 1996, we decided it was time to expand. We opened our second location right here in Horseheads, NY. This was a really special time because the next generation of our family joined the business. Dave's son, Jay, came on board as a part-owner.

This is also when we joined a really big group called Carpet One Floor & Home. Being part of Carpet One cooperative is awesome for you (our customers) because it means we are locally owned but have the power of a huge network. Even though we had to close our original Athens location in 2024, our heart is still beating strong right here in New York. Many family members have worked here over the years, including:

• His wife, Laura
• His daughter, Jill

It really is a full family affair! We are proud of where we came from and excited about where we are going.
